About me

Who I am

My name is Lena Noel Sterley. I live full time in an RV with my husband of 23 years and travel the US. I work from the back of our rig and have a new view almost every week! Sometimes it’s an ocean…sometimes it’s the back end of another camper's trailer. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s always an adventure. I am Auntie to 14 nieces and nephews (with one on the way), and 2 great- nieces. I am a passionate reader and writer (though much of it is in my head these days) and love spending my days with authors hashing out the nitty gritty to complete a book.  My personal philosophy is giving grace and growing others.

What I do

I have an M.F.A in creative writing, write creative non-fiction, and have been editing for over ten years. I will tell you how your characters show up and if there is a stronger way to write them. I focus on voice. Is it consistent throughout the story? Do your characters really sound like the people you’ve described? For example, are you writing a romance novel through the eyes of a man, but his inner monologue sounds like a woman? Or is the voice you’re using for your narrator or your main character the right one to use in telling your story. For example, if you’re telling a horror story, first person POV through the eyes of the young girl living in the haunted house could be more compelling than using a third person narrator. I will tell you honestly and directly where I see strengths and opportunities in your writing. And, most importantly, I can make sure you are proud of the final product.

In addition to editing, I have a background in teaching and tutoring and can help you improve your writing skills—both the science and the art. I love to talk about writing, characters, motivations, and I love to read. I look forward to picking up new stories and giving you an unfiltered response to your book. I specialize in fiction of all types—mystery, romance, action, and Christian fiction are my favorite. I can do horror, but don’t love it, and will not edit erotica or books rated NC17.

I want our interactions to feel like a partnership and for you to see me as a trusted writing consultant. And when it’s time to go our separate ways, I want you to feel like your time spent with me was truly valuable.
