One-hour story call

No matter how experienced you are, or how many books you’ve written, sometimes you just need to talk through your story, plot, characters or give the voices in your head, well, a voice. Bounce ideas off of me or share your concerns. If you have writer’s block, I can help you break through the walls or just listen to your crazy thoughts (all writers have them).

Rate: $150 / hour flat fee

First read (Alpha-reader)

Writing is a scary, vulnerable journey. Let me read through your manuscript, finished or partially finished, and give you a brief assessment on the direction of the story. I will share the strengths along with opportunities for growth in your story and help keep you moving on the right path. This is a good place to tweak characters, adjust plot or pacing before you get too deep into the editing process. 30- minute follow-up calls are available for an additional fee ($50).

Rate: $400 flat fee

Editorial assessment

An editorial assessment is usually the first time you’ve had your manuscript read by a professional editor. I will read through the entire manuscript and provide thoughtful, in-depth feedback concerning elements such as plot, characterization, structure, consistency, and style. I deliver this feedback in structured notes and review them during a phone call with you. This often leads to significant changes to the story and should help you understand which areas of the book can be tweaked and which areas need to be whacked.



Rate: $.010/word ($600 for 60k words)

Developmental edit

With developmental editing, I dig into the story deeply. I look at everything from the nitty gritty, to the big picture. I tend to make big cuts or recommend additions during this phase. Don’t be surprised if there is a major restructuring and rewriting after this stage. I aim to be kind in my comments, but don’t hold back where I feel your story could be better. I provide in-depth feedback along with line editing. Use me in this process when you’ve had several readers, done an editorial assessment and feel ready to move beyond a draft. My goal in a developmental edit is to get you to a place where you say, ‘That’s what I’ve been missing!’

I will typically give suggestions for re-writes and help you work through any holes or issues with the text. This process allows for 3 one-hour calls where you can ask questions on my notes and can call me as you’re working through changes.
